Meet the Interns, Part 3: Parker Lucas

Gravatt internships are designed to introduce young adults to a nonprofit camp and conference center work environment, providing the opportunity to decide if this type of work is a possible career path. Interns at Gravatt also acquire valuable supplementary skills during their service period and make contact with potential future employers within and outside of camp and conference ministry. The Gravatt internship is a perfect opportunity for high school graduates, new college graduates, and college students taking a year off to determine their vocational path.

Our group of two interns has now become three, and we're excited to introduce the new addition to you. Parker Lucas is the Operations Intern.

Parker Lucas

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina and graduate from Ridge View High School in 2012. I'm in my final semester at USC majoring in Religious Studies and minoring in Studio Arts.

USC, huh? That might cause some issues with your supervisor. Tell us about your family.
I have a sister named Taylor who just graduated from the Law School at USC.

What brought you to Gravatt?
I have always enjoyed outdoor and camp ministry so I wanted to see what happens behind the scenes. I have past experience at Fellowship Camp and Conference Center in Greenwood.

What do you want to learn this year?
I want to learn if I have a calling for outdoor.

That's really exciting. What do you want to do with your life?
I hope to one day go to seminary and become a pastor and see where I am called to help.

What do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy rock climbing, photography, art, hiking, and camping.

Chocolate or vanilla?
Can I say both? I like mixed.

Of course, you can say both. How about coffee?
I don't require it.

Do you follow any sports team?
The USC Gamecocks and Tottenham Hotspurs. (That's an English football team.)

Who is your hero?
My hero would have to Alex Honnold a rock climber.

We host a community night as a staff where we take turns hosting and cooking dinner. Do you like to cook? Have a favorite dish you like to prepare?
Yes, I like to cook and my favorite meal to prepare is Lettuce Wraps with chicken

Do you like animals? How do you feel about goats in particular?
Yes, I like most animals. I have never dealt with goats before.

Have you learned anything embarrassing about Scott yet?
Not yet

You've worked two groups now... what are your thoughts?
The staff at Gravatt is very flexible and welcoming.
