Thomas Coleman, Program Director
Thomas Coleman was a camper and is a longtime staff member at Gravatt, beginning in 1997 as a junior counselor. He has been a counselor, assistant ropes director, and ropes director for the camp.
Thomas graduated from Appalachian State University in 2004 with a degree in Recreation Management and a concentration in Outdoor Experiential Education. He is Challenge Course Technician and First Aid Wilderness Responder certified, an Eagle Scout and a member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology. Thomas lives in Columbia with his beautiful wife Rebecca, but spends many overnights at Gravatt serving guest needs.
About his job Thomas says, “I enjoy working with and meeting new people,” and anyone who has met him knows this to be true. Thomas also says, “It is rewarding to see people overcome challenges and experience new things.”
Kara Dye, Director of Marketing and Development
Kara has a deep love for outdoor ministry and has worked in the camp/conference sector for her entire career. Serving as a camper, counselor, and leadership staff just wasn't enough for her.
After graduation from Appalachian State University with a Major in Public Relations and a minor in English, Kara entered the world of conference center management as Public Relations/Marketing Coordinator for NovusWay Ministries, a Lutheran camp organization with 4 sites across the southeast and based out of Asheville, NC.
Kara has already fallen in love with Gravatt and the spirit of teamwork surrounding it and looks forward to the good work of changing lives through this beautiful place in the woods.
Ellen Grbic, Director of Administration
Ellen Grbic joined the Gravatt staff in July 2009. Ellen moved to Aiken from Florida. She has two grown children and three grandchildren. She is a member of Cedar Creek Church in Aiken, where she is an active Stephen’s Minister.
Hers will be the voice that answers when you call Gravatt. She will be happy to help you plan your visit or answer questions about our facility.
Jason Hadden, Challenge Course Coordinator
Jason Hadden has worked in several camp environments as a counselor and summer program director throughout college and high school. He began his time at Camp Gravatt as the Program Intern in 2013-14. While continuing his college education, he worked as a ropes course facilitator and extra farm hand for Thomas Coleman. In 2017 he accepted the position of Challenge Course Coordinator.
Jason was born in Jasper, Florida but moved to Aiken, South Carolina when he was 8 years old. He is a current volunteer for YoungLife Ministries, works for Crossroads Church in Aiken, and is completing his BA in History with a minor in Anthropology in 2017 at the University of South Carolina, Aiken.
Beth Jones, Summer Camp Director
Beth is from Lexington, South Carolina and has been attending Gravatt for as long as she can remember. For the past five summers she has been a counselor, Waterfront Director, and Assistant Director for Leadership Development. She is excited to take on her new role as Summer Camp Director starting in January of 2018.
Beth is currently finishing up her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of South Carolina in Human Resource Management and will graduate in December of 2017.
Scott McNeely, Executive Director
Scott McNeely grew up as a camper at Gravatt and has worked on the summer camp staff since 2002. He has served as a counselor, head counselor, assistant ropes director, program director, leadership director and assistant director. He won the Outstanding Staffer of the Year award in 2004, an award presented every summer by his Godfather, Archdeacon Fred Byrd.
Scott was raised in the small farming community of Tirzah, South Carolina just outside of Rock Hill. He graduated from Clemson University in 2005 with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Religion. After graduation, Scott moved back to York County where he worked with Special Needs children for York School District One. In 2011 he accepted a permanent position at Gravatt, serving as the Camp Director. In 2015, he was promoted to Director of Operations. Scott served as the Acting Executive Director from May-June 2017, when he was named Executive Director.
Pat Millette, Dining Services Manager
Pat joined the Gravatt team in January 2016 after many years in food service with other organizations. She likes the family atmosphere at Gravatt. She loves making Italian dishes. A native of Rhode Island, Pat is married to Peter, has a daughter and a son, and loves her beautiful grandchild.
Ruth Vitaliani, Assistant Dining Services Manager
Ruth has worn many different hats in her career life, but she must admit that her favorite is Gravatt. She loves helping to plan the events that go on here, and all the details associated with the planning and organization of an event centered around food. Our guests are really appreciative of the work and love that Pat and Ruth put into our food.
