Meet the Interns, Part 1: Kelsey Chapman

Gravatt internships are designed to introduce young adults to a nonprofit camp and conference center work environment, providing the opportunity to decide if this type of work is a possible career path. Interns at Gravatt also acquire valuable supplementary skills during their service period and make contact with potential future employers within and outside of camp and conference ministry. The Gravatt internship is a perfect opportunity for high school graduates, new college graduates, and college students taking a year off to determine their vocational path.

Gravatt has two news interns this fall, and we're excited to introduce them to you...

kelsey chapman, administration intern

Where are you from?
My hometown is Saline, Michigan. It’s just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan, where the University of Michigan campus is. I graduated from Saline High School (Go Hornets!), and I just graduated from Washtenaw Community College with an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts.

That's awesome! I bet your family will miss you. Do you have siblings?
I am the youngest in my family. I have two older sisters and a couple of step-siblings as well.

You're a long way from home. What brought you to Gravatt?
I am here at Gravatt because I want to know more about the camping industry. I found Gravatt online, and I knew immediately that I needed to work here. Gravatt is a very special place and I cannot wait to get started here!

We think so too! What do you want to learn this year?
I want to learn more about the camping industry and I am interested in learning how to be a great host for our conference groups.

We can already tell our groups are going to love you. Is camp and conference something you want to explore as a profession?
I am really interested in the camping industry and using from what I’ve learned here at Gravatt, I’m hoping to continue my education in this field.

You have grown up going to another camp... Tell us about that.
I grew up at Camp Killarney, which is located in Onsted, Michigan. This summer I was the waterfront director. At Camp Killarney I found my passion of working at camp. Camp Killarney is a small church camp. It is so wonderful.

What do you like to do for fun?
I love hanging out with my friends and family! I also enjoy reading and watching Netflix.

Now for the important questions...Chocolate or vanilla?
If we’re talking about ice cream, then definitely vanilla, but I like it with chocolate syrup and sprinkles on top.

How do you take your coffee?
I love coffee but over this past summer, I cut back. I can drink it black, but I prefer a splash of a delicious hazelnut or French vanilla creamer.

Who is your hero?
My hero is my Grandma Stollstiemer. She is very kind, and she is an amazing cook. When I told her about this internship, she supported me and told me to go for it! She is an incredible woman, and I’m so blessed to have her as a role model.

Do you like animals? How do you feel about goats in particular?
I
love animals! I especially love dogs. The goats here at Gravatt are cute, and I think it’ll be fun taking care of them.

Anything else you want us to know about you?
I am very excited to work here at Gravatt and I am blessed to be at such an amazing place.

US TOO!
